Reproductive Choice
July 2022
Cultural and Secular Jewish Organization’s update to our 1990 Reproductive Choice statement
In light of the recent Supreme Court action and the political climate across the United States, in which women’s rights to body autonomy and privacy are being denied, we would like to reiterate our commitment every woman’s right to reproductive choice with the following statement:
December 1990
The Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations of North America declares that all women have the right to make decisions regarding family planning and abortion for themselves.
As secularists, we oppose all attempts to inject into the debate clerical and theological concepts that depend upon faith for their validity and which are inappropriate in the realm of democratic public policy.
As humanists, we affirm the right of women to absolute control over their bodies and their choices in reproduction. The intervention of governments or any other institutions or individuals in personal choices regarding ones’ own life and health is a profound threat to basic human rights.
As Jews, we reject the blatant misuse of the term ‘holocaust’ by those who seek to associate abortion with the deliberately planned mass murder of millions of conscious human beings. Anyone who twists that term commits an unthinkable offense against the memory of those millions.
The Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations will participate actively with others in defense of women’s absolute right of free choice in all matters of reproduction and abortion.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
